Am I required to register for GST and pay GST on the commission income I earn through referral links from various brokers?

Yes, GST registration and filing is mandatory once you cross the limit of 20 lakhs in revenue. Thus, you are liable to take the registration on a prospective basis from the date you crossed the ceiling limit.
