AIS Feedback: How to correct mistakes in AIS?

The Annual Information Statement (AIS) is a detailed document that summarizes your financial transactions for a given financial year.

It includes information on salary, dividends, interest income, sale of securities,
international remittance details and much more, as reported by different entities like SEBI, banks, etc.

The government uses information reported in the AIS to track financial transactions and send targeted communications to taxpayers to ensure compliance.

In this forum, some users have raised concerns mentioning that the information in their AIS does not match their personal records, which in turn results in an intimation from the ITD.

If you believe that the information reported in the AIS is incorrect, you can rectify them by submitting AIS feedback on the Income Tax Portal.

Here’s a guide on how to submit feedback in AIS.

  1. Log in to the Income Tax portal.

  2. Click on AIS, which will redirect you to the Compliance Portal.

  3. On the Compliance Portal:

Select the relevant financial year and you will see a list of transactions. Find the ones with discrepancy and click on the button in the Feedback column.

You can select any one of the responses below:

  • Information is correct
  • Income is not taxable
  • Information is not fully correct
  • Information relates to another PAN/Year
  • Information is duplicate/included in other information
  • Additional responses will be available based on the information category.
e.g. in case of the purchase of immovable property, an option to provide feedback as “Exempt under specific provisions” will be available.

Choose the feedback option relevant to your case and submit the same.

In case you select ‘Information is not fully correct’ or ‘Information relates to another PAN/Year’, you will need to provide further details related to the transaction.

What happens after you submit AIS feedback?

After you successfully submit feedback on the information reported in AIS, it may be shared with the reporting entities (SEBI/banks) for verification/comments/responses.

Further, the feedback provided will be displayed along with the original and modified values of the information in your profile.

You will receive a confirmation of feedback submission via email and SMS, and you can also download the acknowledgment receipt for your records.

The assesse is a housewife with no income expect interest income. Here is what the initial 26as, interest certificate and AIS/TIS showed

As you can see the TDS deposited was less. The bank didn’t even listen to them and wasn’t willing to rectify this. Finally after about one and a half month the bank revised but now it is showing additional amount as interest in AIS and TIS

The less deposited TDS amount of Rs. 11000/- is added to the AIS and TIS somehow. Contacted the bank again. They are saying that they have rectified their mistake which was less deposited TDS and for AIS and TIS one needs to contact the income tax department. What should be done here?

If feedback needs to be submitted on the AIS page then what option to select from the feedback window?

Hi @tax007

What is the exact concern here? In case the information visible in AIS is partially correct, you can select the feedback option “Information is not fully correct” and correct the wrong amount.

What if you directly submit a request to your CA and get it from him?

Hey @itzchandankumarsahoo,

Could you please elaborate on your query?

Do I need to upload any documents during ITR Filing, such as Bank Statement, PnL from stock broker etc…?

In my AIS, not all share transactions (sold ones) during the FY have been shown. I assume all dividends paid also to be reflected. However, it is incomplete. Kindly advise.

Hey @michuanu2002,

Documents like your P&L statement, bank statements AIS, etc. are required to fill the appropriate details while filing the ITR. However, you don’t have to upload these documents if you are filing via the income tax portal.

Hope this helps!

I purchased GOI bonds (e.g. 689GS2025) via Zerodha Coin. I think these are from auction held by government.
I then sold them off in Zerodha Kite later on.

There is mismatch in AIS, so I’m trying to fix that.

  1. Is the “Debit Type” of the purchase of the bond considered “Market” or “Off Market”?
  2. Is the Security Class “Listed Debenture” or “Other Units”
  3. How do I calculate the “Fair Market Value”? Its showing 0 in AIS

I assume that AIS will show all portfolio of equity transactions. My AIS has not shown all transactions. I have sold some of equity during the FY 2023-2024. However, only few is shown in AIS. how to correct?

There is an option to give feedback

I don’t know the answer to these questions , but just wanted to say that my understanding is that giving feedback on incorrect / incomplete AIS entries is voluntary and there is no statutory burden on the assessee to ensure that the AIS is correct. In my opinion, as long as you correctly report the income in your ITR , you should be fine. Hope some expert can confirm that this is indeed the correct legal position.

My Bank had put my PAN in other’s account so excess TDS deducted.
I am asking bank to correct it, but even after six months they’re unable to do it.
It is related to 3 FY.
WHAT TO DO NOW

Hello @Atul_Pathak

You can report the same issue by submitting a feedback in AIS and mentioning the reason the transaction belongs to other PAN. Since the TDS does not belong to you, you shall not claim the same while filing ITR.

Once you submit the feedback on AIS, ITD will ask the reporting entity (bank in this case) to rectify the data and once it gets reflected it shall not be visible against your PAN.

Thank you.

  1. I just looked at my AIS after downloading the pdf file and there are several errors, mostly relating to double/triple reporting of entries and mis-characterising transactions like showing IPO applications where I was not allotted any shares as purchases. I don’t see any option to provide feedback on the incorrect entries, either on the income tax portal or the AIS portal the AIS redirects to . Can someone please help me with how to provide feedback on the AIS?

Hi @RanS

Please connect over instagram @FinTaxSnippets for further assistance in this regard.

Thanks

Hi, You’ll see the option to provide feedback on the AIS Portal. Once you click on the entry, you’ll have an option to provide feedback. Here’s a screenshot for your reference.
