Few questions regarding unlisted shares

How to report unlisted shares which undergone a split? Like Let’s say I bought 100 shares of ABC at 1,000rs each fv 10 and now after the split the fv is 1, so now I have 1,000 shares at 100 rs each. Should I report the acquisition with split figures? And also what about sale figure as I sold the shares after the split?
bought 100 shares abc @ 1000
sold 1000 shares abc @ 100

Also if a share I bought this fy gets listed in the same fy, should I report only the purchase transaction as the sale will only occur in the listed market?

Also can I adjust loss from short term unlisted shares with gains from stcg listed market?

Hey @knight

Let me answer to your queries one by one:-

  1. In the case of a stock split, the acquisition cost should be adjusted
accordingly. For example, if you originally purchased 100 shares at ₹1,000
each (total ₹1,00,000), and the stock undergoes a 1:10 split, you’ll now hold
1,000 shares at ₹100 each. Both the acquisition and sale should be
reported using these post-split figures - i.e., acquisition cost: ₹1,00,000
    (1,000 shares × ₹100), and sale proceeds: ₹1,00,000 (1,000 shares × ₹100).

  2. Since you are required to report details of unlisted equity shares if you have
held them at any time during the financial year, the acquisition must be
disclosed even if the shares were subsequently listed. Therefore, the
purchase transaction should be reported in the ITR.

  3. Short-term capital losses from unlisted shares can be set off against short-
term capital gains from listed shares.

Hope this helps!

Another question in regard to the first point, let’s say if I already held some abc shares from the previous fy. Do I need to show the opening balance for those shares in post-split figures?

Hey @knight

Yes, you are required to show the opening balance.

Hope this helps!

If I sell the unlisted shares, do I need to report the fair market value of the shares as well? If so, how is the FMV calculated for unlisted shares?

Hey @knight

No, you are not required to report the FMV of the unlisted shares.

Hope this helps!
