How to find tax payment details on Income Tax Portal?

When filing your Income Tax Return, it’s important to report the taxes you’ve already paid. This includes the TDS deducted by your employer, any advance tax you’ve paid, or any self-assessment tax.

These details helps the Income Tax Department verify that you don’t overpay or underpay your taxes. Also, it helps avoid mistakes in your return filing, which might otherwise lead to penalties or delays in processing your refund.

Where to find these details?

Follow these steps to retrieve all the tax payment information:

  1. Log in to Income Tax Portal

  2. Navigate to e-File > E-Pay Tax

  3. Click on Payment History and under the ‘Actions tab’ View Details

  4. Review your Challan Receipt

Once your Challan Receipt is displayed, take a moment to carefully review the following important details related to your tax payment:

  • BSR Code: The code that identifies the bank where your payment was processed.
  • Challan Number: A unique reference number for your payment.
  • Amount: The exact amount you paid.
  • Tender Date: The date on which the payment was made.

Make sure to note these details, as you will need to report them when filing your ITR.

One additional tip is to always download and save a copy of your challan receipt after making any tax payment. It contains important details like the BSR Code, Challan Number, CRN, payment date, and amount, which may be required when filing your ITR or resolving any future tax queries. If you don’t see a recent payment in your history immediately, don’t panic—it can sometimes take a little time for the portal to update. Keeping a copy of the receipt makes it much easier to verify your payment if needed.
