I worked in singapore from 2015 to 2022 . During that time I invested in unlisted shares of companies in United Kingdom through a crowdfunding platform . I am a resident of India for the past 2 years . If I receive any proceeds from the sale of shares now will it be taxable ?
Do I have to declare how much I have invested in UK during 2015 - 2022 now in my Income Tax return ?
Hello @rooram
Since you are in India for the past 2 years and resident, you will have to pay tax on Capital Gains you earn from the sale of shares held in UK. You can claim the credit of taxes you pay in UK on sale of shares (if any) while filing ITR in India.
At the same time, until you sale your shares, it is mandatory to disclose the foreign shares held outside India and its value while filing ITR.
Hope, this helps.
