I have purchased a property in joint ownership with my wife for Rs 1.40 cr from Delhi Development Authority, for which I have paid TDS Rs 1.40 Lakh on time . However at the time of possession DDA demanded that TDS submitted is lesser and halted the possession. So I filed another Challan for balance TDS amount which was around 1100 with payment details same as of the previous challan as No new payment was done. However I have received notice under s 200 of Income Tax act stating that my TDS payment is lesser and they have demanded 1.50 Lakh including penalty. However TDS short deduction they have notified has been already been paid by me in previous challan. Kindly guide what to do.
Filing a duplicate Form 26QB without paying new money caused the tax portal to mark the demand as unpaid. To resolve this, log in to TRACES to file an online Form 26QB correction, pay the actual balance amount of ~₹1,100 via a fresh e-Pay Tax challan, map the new payment to the statement, and submit a “Disagree with Demand” / Rectification u/s 154 response on the e-Filing portal with copies of both challans.
