Quarterly Break-up of Capital Gains in case of Loss in a Quarter

Hi @TeamQuicko

I have a confusion regarding how to show quarterly break-up for capital gains when there is a loss in one or more quarters.

Let’s say I have a total STCG of 700 and my quarterly break-up looks like this -

1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th(from 16-31 march)
100 200 300 - 400(loss) 500

Now, should I subtract the loss 400 from next quarter i.e., in this case gain 500 of last quarter ? The table will look like this -

1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th
100 200 300 0 100

Or should I subtract the loss 400 from previous quarters starting from the first quarter ? In this case the table will look like this -

1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th
0 0 200 0 500

Can you please inform me which one is the proper way of reporting this ?

There is no clear guidelines for adjustment of quaterly losses. It is recommended to adjust the loss in the nearest quarter .
In your case you can report losses : - 100 200 300 0 100.
