Received an SMS from the IT Department? "Source has responded on the feedback in AIS"

Wondering What does this SMS means, Why have you received it and What to do next? Let me simplify it for you

Why did you receive this SMS?

When reviewing your AIS (Annual Information Statement), you may have noticed incorrect or unfamiliar transactions (like income, interest, or share trades, etc.). You submitted feedback — such as marking it as “Not belonging to me” or completely “Denying” the information.

This SMS is sent to inform you that your feedback has been forwarded to the original reporting source (like your bank, employer, broker, etc.) — and they have now responded.

What does “Source has responded on the feedback in AIS” mean?

It means the Income Tax Department shared your feedback for the purpose of verification with the reporting entity who has reported such information to the department & the source has now acknowledged and acted on your feedback.

For example:

  • If you denied an FD interest entry, and your bank confirms it was mistakenly attributed — your feedback may now be accepted
  • If the source disagrees with your denial, the transaction will remain unchanged in AIS — and may require further clarification. You will see an record stating that “Feedback is rejected by Source” in your AIS

What are you expected to do now?

:check_mark: Navigate to AIS through e-filing portal
:check_mark: Go to the Feedback History section
:check_mark: Review the updated status of the feedback
:check_mark: If still incorrect, you can:

  • Submit additional feedback
  • Or raise a Grievance via the AIS portal with supporting documentation

It’s crucial to ensure your AIS is clean and correct before filing your ITR to avoid notices, mismatches, or tax demand.
