If you’ve been trying to keep up with all the tax deadlines this year, here’s another change to note. The due date for filing your Tax Audit Report has been extended too - you’ll have until 31 October 2025 instead of the end of September.
The move follows a familiar pattern.
Why was the deadline extended?
Tax audit deadline extensions are not unusual. In earlier years too, the government has granted more time when September had too many compliances falling together. This year too, the extension came after professional bodies asked for relief, the income tax portal saw technical glitches, heavy monsoons disrupted work in some states, and courts directed the government to consider relief.
Alongside this, the ITR filing deadline was moved to 16 September 2025, which added to the case for extending the audit report deadline as well.
But what about ITR filing?
This extension applies only to audit reports and the due date for filing income tax returns in audit cases continues to be 31 October 2025. This means both the audit report and the return now fall on the same day. What we suggest is, businesses and professionals to complete audit work early in October so there’s enough time left to file the return without rushing or risking penalties.
The ITR filing deadline for audit cases remains 31st October 2025.
