I have invested in CPSE ETF this month (September 2024). However, I am uncertain about the short-term and long-term tax rates applicable when I sell the shares in the future, following the budget of this year. Can you please clarify.
Hey @Sankar
The holding period for ETFs would be 12 months, so if you sell them within 12 months then it would be considered short-term capital gains and taxable at 20% and if you sell them after completion of 12 months then it will be long-term capital gains and taxable at 12.5%.

Thank you @CA_Jayni_Bhavsar. So, Equity ETFs are also like any other equity shares as far as Income Tax is concerned except that we don’t pay STT at the time of purchase of ETFs. Hope my understanding is correct.
Hey @Sankar
Yes, it’s correct. Equity ETFs are taxable in the same way as equity shares.
