Feedback provided by taxpayer is incorrect

For FY 2021–2022, I filed my tax return and was later prompted via the e-Campaign to provide feedback regarding data collected at source amounting to ₹15 lakhs. As an NRI, I confirmed that the information was correct and submitted this feedback accordingly.

However, on 19/06/2025, I received an email stating that the information I provided by taxpayer was incorrect, based on a response from the source dated 10/02/2025.

What should be my next course of action?

Hi @Niyas_Ahamed

Could you please share more details. As the feedback provided is Information is correct, how come the source has responded that the taxpayer’s feedback is incorrect.

Thanks,
CA. Pulkit Garg

Thanks for sharing the details. Seems like source has responded on the interim feedback “Information is Denied” which was provided on 26/12/2022, 15:05:23" although the same was later updated to “Information is Correct”. I believe no further action is needed from your end.

You can refer this for more details.

I also received similar msg- that Source has responded my feedback as incorrect. In fact my records showed Dividend to be Rs 1600, while AIS was showing 2430. I send my feedback, which was accepted and I filed ITR for FY 2022-23. Yesterday I got this message. So I responded in feedback that as per my records at that time, I had given the feedback. But now I find AIS entry was correct. So basically I accepted Dividend entry as Rs 2430. What will I have to do? They sent be acknowledgment of my feedback.

I received email and sms stating that the feedback provided by me is incorrect according to information source in AIS.
Information source had added the amount spent by my wife for purchase of mutual fund units to the amount I had spent, because I am a joint account holder, even though my wife was the first holder and investor. In my feedback, I had selected the option Information is partially correct, and entered the modified amount after deducting the amount spent by my wife for her mutual fund purchase, since I am simply a joint account holder.
What should I do now? Is it enough if I now give additional feedback sticking to my original feedback that information is partially correct and explain this reason in the remarks column available for additional feedback in AIS, that investment by my wife is to be deducted, since I am only joint holder

I believe no action is needed from your end.

Even if I under-reported dividend, albeit inadvertently, by about Rs 800? But what I find strange that they are sending these messages after almost two years. Thanks.

Yes, That’s strange but can’t do anything about it😓

I just wanted to say that it seem this exercise is being taken very lightly by banks and mutual fund. I have received three such emails from the income tax department, stating that the source has declared that the correction information provided by the tax payer is incorrect.

When in fact that information was correct.

I have taken this up with the mutual fund concerned ICICI PRU backing it up with my annual statement for the year, but they have not responded.

Likewise with Canara bank.

Escorts mutual fund which closed down in 2018 after being taken over by quant is still reporting investment details in 2022 and 2023 and when such information was denied, escorts response to ITD is that information provided by the tax payer is incorrect.

I have now come to the conclusion that as long as the tax payer has provided correct information in the feedback there is nothing to fear as he has proof to back it up.

However CAs should take this up with the ITD, such frivolous rejections of correct tax payer provided informations are source of needless stress for the tax payers.

Thanks, Sunil ji, but in my case Dividend on Torrent Pharma shares reported before July 17 and after that was different- later one being correct. But I had filed my ITR, and had given feedback that AIS info was partly incorrect, giving value available at that time. What worries me is that it took ITD almost two years to send that my feedback was incorrect as informed by Source.
